This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our guests/visitors.

Access Statement for Belmont Bed and Breakfast

Introduction

Belmont B&B is an 18th-century cottage and former farmstead in Ryedale, North Yorkshire. We are located between Pickering, Helmsley and Malton in the village of Wrelton.

At Belmont we provide 4-star accredited bed and breakfast accommodation with five en-suite rooms. Each room offers modern facilities enhanced by many original character features. We have private car parking which leads through to a wild garden and our own vegetable patch. We offer a choice of freshly made breakfast and our rooms have tea and coffee making facilities.

Pre-Arrival

  • Directions are available on our website at www.belmontnorthyorkshire.co.uk/directions/. If you are using a journey planner our postcode is YO18 8PG.
  • The nearest railway station is Malton which is 10 miles away. Taxis are available at the station.
  • The nearest bus stop is a 3 minute walk from Belmont. The bus service is the 128 which runs from Helmsley to Scarborough and back. Our stop is The Buck Inn Wrelton.
  • The pavement from the bus stop is tarmac and has a slight incline up to us.

Car Parking and Arrival

  • There are spaces for 5 guest cars only. Parking is private and to the rear of the property.
  • The entrance to the car park is to the left of the B&B between the house and the red phone box.
  • The driveway is hard surface and the car park is gravel.
  • There is a ramp leading from the car park to the rear entrance of the house and a ramp into the dining room/ guest lounge.
  • The ground floor room also can be accessed from this ramp.
  • We do allow cars to pull up to the ramp for offloading purposes but ask all guests to park against the wall opposite the house and outbuildings.
  • At night the rear door is locked at 9pm and guests are asked to park then walk around the front of the house.
  • There is a motion sensor security light to illuminate the way.
  • The rear door is 90cm/ 35.5 inches wide and the door from the rear boot room to the guest lounge is 83cm/ 32,5inches.
  • We can assist with luggage.
  • The path to the front door is paved.
  • The front door is 77cm/ 30.5 inches and opens into a small area at the foot of the stairs. From this area access is to the guest lounge/ breakfast room and the door here is 80cm/ 31.5 inches.

Welcome Area

  • Guests are welcomed in the guest lounge / breakfast room
  • Seating is available with two upright armchairs, dining chairs and a settee
  • The floor is carpeted
  • The area is well lit with wall lighting and lamps
  • Guests are shown the lounge, car park, rear entrance and their bedroom

Bedrooms

  • There is one bedroom on the ground floor.
  • Double or twin bed configuration is available in this room.
  • The height of the bed is 60cm/ 27.5 inches from the floor to the top of the mattress.
  • We have a bed grab rail available.
  • The room is accessible via a ramp from the car park. The ramp measures 151cm/ 5ft wide and has a slight incline to the room.
  • The front door to this room is 90cm/ 35.5 inches
  • The flooring in the room is tiled.
  • The room has under floor heating.

Bathrooms, Shower-rooms & Toilets (En-suite or Shared)

  • All rooms have en-suite bathrooms with either bath only or shower cubicles.
  • The first floor rooms with shower cubicles have a glass shower panel.
  • The first floor superior double room has a shower head over the bath which means standing in the bath for a shower. Grab bars are fitted.
  • Grab bars are fitted in all shower cubicles.
  • The ground floor room has an en-suite wet-room style shower room.
  • The door to the wet-room measures 71cm/ 28 inches when fully open.
  • The toilet has a drop-down support bar on the left and a wall grab bar to the right.
  • The WC pan is 51cm/ 20 inches from the floor to the toilet seat.
  • The basin is 87cm/ 34 inches high
  • The basin taps are lever taps.
  • The basin and shower area have grab bars.
  • The shower has safety temperature control and has overhead shower head and removable hand shower.
  • We have a shower stool available.

Public Areas – Halls, Stairs, Landings, Corridors

  • Access to the first floor is via a staircase.
  • The stairs have 14 steps with 2 more to the first floor landing.
  • The staircase is 74cm/ 29 inches wide and with wooden hand rail on the right side.
  • There are two steps down into the single bedroom.
  • The carpet on the stairs is short pile.
  • The first floor landing has a slanted ceiling so is low at the building wall side.
  • The lighting is push button which goes off after 5 minutes.

Public Areas – Lounge

  • The guest lounge/ breakfast room is situated on the ground floor and has level access with no steps.
  • Seating is available with two upright armchairs, dining chairs and a settee.
  • Wooden floor with rugs
  • The area is well lit with wall lighting and lamps

Public Toilet

  • The public toilet is accessed from the boot room with level entry/ step free access.
  • The toilet has restricted access.
  • The doorway is 63cm/ 24.75 inches at its widest opening.
  • The toilet pan is 43cm/ 17 inches
  • The basin is 87cm/ 34 inches high.
  • There are lever taps on the basin

Dining Room

  • The guest lounge/ breakfast room is situated on the ground floor and has level access with no steps.
  • Seating is available with two upright armchairs, dining chairs and a settee.
  • Wooden floor with rugs
  • The area is well lit with wall lighting and lamps

Garden

  • The garden is accessible by a path that runs along the outbuildings.
  • Access to this path is via the ramp that serves the ground floor room.
  • Tables and chairs are available.

Additional Information

  • Dogs or pets are not allowed.
  • We have an evacuation procedure and we will come to your room to assist in the case of emergencies should you request this.
