We are only 4 miles from the lovely village of Thornton Le Dale. The village was once named ‘Yorkshire’s Prettiest Village’ and that still holds true. More recently the village is known for being the original location for the TV show, Bangers and Cash, based around Mathewsons car restorations, museum and auctions.
A walk through the village from the centre to the bridge you can call in for a cuppa and meal at the family run business of Baldersons, try their home-made ice-cream or visit their bakery. Train on the NYMR When I was growing up in Pickering we used to go and help out at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. This would be in the early 1970’s. The railway was in it’s early stages and nothing like the attraction it is today. In 1973 there was a mini TV series filmed at the station. It was a 10 second segment at the start of the programme – South Riding starring Dorothy Tutin. They ‘dressed’ the station to look like a 1930’s station.
