When I was growing up in Pickering we used to go and help out at the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. This would be in the early 1970’s. The railway was in it’s early stages and nothing like the attraction it is today. In 1973 there was a mini TV series filmed at the station. It was a 10 second segment at the start of the programme – South Riding starring Dorothy Tutin. They ‘dressed’ the station to look like a 1930’s station. Tutin walked off the train and through a puff of smoke towards the camera. I remember thinking how long it took and how many people were involved for that short segment. Anyway, the North York Moors railway have a special event running from February 10th through to the 18th when the Royal Scot train will be making daily journeys from Pickering to Grosmont. If you are a railway fan you are probably aware of it but just in case any of our guests are interested here is the link to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway page for more info.
